Highlighting Janera R - Artist in Training

One of our students, Janera, is a junior at Burke High School. She’s incredibly sweet, as talkative as can be, and a genuinely good-hearted young woman. She works hard in school and at her job where she picks up shifts after school and on weekends and while babysitting her cousins and siblings. Somehow in her busy schedule, she has time to work on her true passion - art. Her skill is impressive and her drive unmatched. It’s been so much fun getting to see Janera find her way as a young woman, a young leader, and a young artist.

When asked why she drew this particular piece, she mentioned how seeing it’s February and Black History Month, she wanted to highlight the movie Get Out which tackles the ideas of racism in Jordan Peele’s hour forty-five minute thriller. The attention to detail in Janera’s work is impressive, don’t you think?
