Valentine's Day Drop Off at MUSC

Students communicated in January about wanting to do something special for children who are in Shawn Jenkins Children Hospital in downtown Charleston. They reached out to nurses and to volunteer coordinators and landed on writing Valentine’s Day cards and donating small toys to brighten the days of each and every patient in the hospital for the holiday. Seeing that many of the patients will not be able to see many of their friends, family, and loved ones due to their illness, Burke students wanted to make sure that those in the hospital knew there was a community of people out here who love them and are rooting for them.

Students were able to raise over $200 and buy enough toys and sign cards for over 75 patients in the hospital. Even some of our students’ siblings helped out (shoutout to Kylin!). Sometimes it’s the small gestures that make a world of difference for a child.
